Background

Born and raised on a wheat farm in Kansas, Hoehner attended high school in McCook, NE.

She taught and coached volleyball at Overton Public Schools. Then she taught math at Bertrand Public Schools.

“My math teacher invited me to her home for iced tea, which was a big deal. She had lined up my college program as an electrical engineer and had even set up the classes at UNL and had everything in place.”

然而, Hoehner’s mother thought she should major in math 教育 first just in case she wanted to start a family. Her mother offered to pay for her electrical engineering degree after she earned her teaching degree.

“I continued teaching because I love it.”

In 1995, Hoehner began teaching at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She was the first full-time professor in 教育al administration at 体育菠菜大平台, and later was the first female chair of the department.

“The most important thing you can give your students is the ability to simply think. Change is the biggest factor out there. If you’re open to evolving, you will succeed.”
